Formed in 1962, it falls under the purview of the Government of India. It is a board of education for public and private schools. More than 19000 schools in India are affiliated to CBSE. At the time of constitution of the Board, it had about 309 schools under its jurisdiction. There are 19000 plus schools under its jurisdiction at present in India and 200 plus school in foreign countries. It includes 1000 plus Kendriya Vidyalayas, 2500 plus Government/Aided Schools, 14000 plus Independent Schools, 590 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and 14 Central Tibetan Schools under the Board. The objectives of the Board is to ensure a child centric and holistic education to all children, to develop norms for imparting the curriculum, update the professional competency of teachers. It prescribes conditions for conduct of public examinations at the end of Class X and XII. The objective is also to affiliate institutions for the purpose of examination and ensure that the academic standards of the country are high and qualitative. |

ICSE was established by the 'Local Examinations Syndicate' of the University of Cambridge that existed during the British regime. In December 1967, the Council was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations was establish to provide high quality education to children. The objectives also included creating exciting learning opportunities, with a commitment to excellence. Three levels of examinations are conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations namely, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE - Class X); The Indian School Certificate (ISC - ClassXII) and the Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE - Year 12). Syllabus followed by ICSE schools focuses on holistic development of the students with emphasis on developing practical knowledge of the subjects they learn. It is beneficial for students who wish to go abroad for higher studies since the school certificate is recognized by many universities and countries abroad. |

It was founded in 1968 and has student strength of 3,500 students in 146 countries. International Baccalaureate (IB) is an 'International Educational Foundation' headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It is more internationally accepted and follows a different teaching methodology. It is difficult to find teachers not easily available and shifting boards may also be difficult. Students get to learn more about additional languages, their personal self, ethics such as team work and leadership by doing various projects regularly. Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering four high end programmes of international education. The objective is to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills of children and prepare them to work in a rapidly globalizing world. Students have the edge over the students of other boards and can apply to foreign universities, IB being recognised globally. It is most suited for children whose parents need to relocate to foreign locations for career. The board curriculum gives an opportunity to a student to engage in an in-depth study of a topic of interest within a chosen subject. Application and Experimentation are the basis of the curriculum. |

It is suitable for children whose parents may relocate internationally. It has worldwide status and recognition. It has a balanced curriculum which starts in Class 9 and is perfect for a multi-language and multi-cultural career. The students are engaged and encouraged through practical approach to teaching and learning. Assessment consists of oral and listening tests with video programs in addition to conventional written papers. The board also develops and encourages problem solving skills team work, oral/investigative skills. A pass under the IGCSE board makes the student eligible for any +2 level qualifications, like Class 12 CBSE/ ICSE or any international pre-university programme. |

State Board |
State Boards are Boards constituted by individual State Governments in the states of the country. Each state has its own syllabus and grading and marking systems. Study of the regional language and culture is encouraged and practiced. State board examinations are referred to as Madhayamik for Secondary State Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations. Each state board has some variance from NCERT syllabus and focuses on local state education. |
